With SAP-HANA, scalability is translated to scale-up and scale-out.
Scale-up is straightforward — add capacity! Increase memory, CPU and storage as needed or up the hardware limit of the SAP HANA appliance. If the hardware limit is reached, move your SAP HANA to a new, larger appliance.
Scale-up is currently limited to 12 TB of memory but this limit will probably already have been exceeded by the time you read this book.
Please note that the scale-up server hardware for OLAP applications, such as SAP Business Warehouse, differs from server hardware for OLTP applications, such as SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA products. The amount of memory is always related to the amount of CPU cores. For OLTP applications, more RAM per CPU core is possible.
