Driven by recent discussions, I started to wonder what’s the best configuration for the SAP Security Audit Log or short SAL. Knowing that SAL is a trustworthy security log available for SAP instances it seems to be obvious to me, that one needs or better wants to activate it. Oh, I forget to mention it’s not active by default!

Let’s go through the concept of SAL. SAP has implemented the security relevant events deep underneath the surface, within the SAP kernel. The name “Security Audit Log” indicates – a log file is written to the file system. (more…)

The purpose of BI Content
Many objects are used in SAP BW to analyze company data. Defining objects from scratch represents a huge amount of work and high costs for the IT department. SAP BI Content addresses this issue by providing predefined objects that are ready to use. Thus, you should always check the BI Content before defining BW objects. The BI Content objects can be activated and used as provided or adapted to the company’s requirements.

If you are in a high-volume production environment, your SAP reports can generate extremely long lists of data. While creating customized layouts can help to reduce the unnecessary information shown, they cannot help you to locate specific information within your report output. Fortunately, SAP offers several tools to assist you in refining your data output, located in the toolbar of your reporting screens (see Figure 1.9).
